Affirmations: Why You Should Start Your Day With Them

Affirmations are the ‘popular-girl’ in the self-help niche. Everyone has heard of it, but only a few know it better – as if they’re best friends! Well..in this article, I will share all about this ‘popular girl’ – yes, because I know her.

What are Affirmations?

Affirmations are positive statements that are supposed to help you become optimistic about life. They’re meant to be repeated over and over again, every day. Practicing them won’t help unless you’re consistent.

3 examples of affirmations

There are different affirmations for people with different goals. Hence, we move to the next section of the blog.

5 Types of Affirmations

There are five major categories for affirmations that we’ll be looking into:

  1. Positive affirmations
  2. Self-love affirmations
  3. Healing affirmations
  4. Gratitude affirmations
  5. Motivational statements

1. Positive Affirmations

These are positive statements or phrases that help you to become a better, and more optimistic version of yourself. They are the best for the people who deal with:

  • Self-esteem issues
  • Negative thoughts
  • Stress

Here are three examples of positive statements:

  • I am confident and strong.
  • There’s something better waiting for me.
  • Little by little, I am growing every day.

2. Self-Love Affirmations

Such type of phrases promote self-acceptance and self-love. If you practice a few of them each day, you’re surely going to be more confident and happier than ever.

Here are three examples of self-love affirmations:

  • Look at you, sweetie! You are beautiful, inside and out.
  • Any scar on me, and any imperfection — I accept all of it as a part of me.
  • I am unique and deserving of good things.

3. Healing Affirmations

Healing affirmations are the ‘one’ for the people who are in the process of healing. If you are one of those people, I promise, you deserve healing.

Here are five examples of healing statements:

  • I am allowing myself to heal and grow.
  • I am deserving of love, respect, and care.
  • The past is gone. I want to focus on the good things that the future holds for me.
  • I am healing slowly. I know that I will be healed soon.
  • In my life, peace comes first.

4. Gratitude Affirmations

Everyday gratitude statements are there to help you appreciate the tiny details of your life. Most of the time, these are the things that we don’t normally notice.

Still, we make an effort to appreciate them as a part of our statements or gratitude letters.

Here are two examples of gratitude affirmations:

  • I am grateful for the people who love me.
  • I am thankful for food, water, and a home.

You don’t have to repeat the same gratitude statements. There’s freedom to switch things up!

5. Motivational Statements

Motivational affirmations are mostly helpful for people who want to achieve a certain goal. These statements keep them motivated for the day, maintaining a positive flow.

Here are three examples of motivational statements:

  • I have studied enough and for sure, I can score A+.
  • I have the potential to achieve my goals by next month.
  • I have all the resources available to achieve my goals.

Here’s a tip: Make sure that your statements are credible. While making new motivational statements, think of the areas of your life that you’re working on. Say them out loud to yourself.

The Right Way To Say Affirmations

You must be thinking, “Oh, so all I have to do is write a positive statement or think of it in the morning.” Let me break the bubble — it’s not how it works.

There’s a right way to say them. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Stand in front of a mirror big enough that reflects at least half of you.
  2. Take a deep breath.
  3. Make strong eye contact with your reflection.
  4. Say the statement you just made out loud. Repeat it.

Remember to maintain eye contact as you speak. Look into your eyes and slowly, start having faith in what you say to yourself. It’s going to be like a self-talk session where you apologize for every bad thing you’ve ever said about yourself.

You might feel overwhelmed during the first few times. For instance, I lacked self-esteem. So, when I first started speaking in front of the mirror, I couldn’t look into my eyes and it was overwhelming. But over time, it got better!

Conclusion

Daily affirmations are one of the best ways to boost confidence, achieve your goals, and improve the way you look at yourself. But it may not have worked out for you – maybe because you were doing it all wrong!

I hope you pick up on this new habit again and make it work for you this time.
